How we picked
This guide draws from a pool of five listings whose titles say mixed reality, MR, XR or passthrough (Windows Mixed Reality, a PC VR platform name, does not count). The headsets are compared on the details stated in each listing and on the live price. The ordering rule ranks picks by the number of stated yes details among mixed reality, plays PC VR, eye tracking and controllers included (most first), then by stated storage (larger first), then by the order in the pool. The top pick has three stated yes details; the others have two or one.
How to choose
Mixed reality on a listing: what it means
When a listing says mixed reality, MR, XR or passthrough, it means the headset uses its cameras to show the room around you while you are in an app. This lets you see your physical space and interact with virtual objects placed in it. The guide compares headsets only on whether the title states mixed reality, not on how well it works.
Standalone, PC VR or PlayStation
A standalone headset runs apps on its own without a PC or console. A PC VR headset requires a gaming PC to run. A PlayStation headset works with a PlayStation console. All picks here are standalone, but some also state PC VR capability, meaning they can connect to a PC through a cable or streaming as the title says.
Storage on a standalone headset
Storage is the space for apps and games on a standalone headset. Only one pick here states its storage (128 GB). When storage is not stated by the seller, the guide cannot say how much space the headset has. Buyers who need a known capacity should look for a listing that states it.
Plays PC VR: cables and streaming words
A standalone headset that also says PC VR can run PC VR content through a cable or wireless streaming, as the title states. The HTC Vive Focus Vision Wired Bundle specifically mentions a DisplayPort PC VR streaming kit, indicating a wired connection. The guide does not claim how well it works, only that the title says it.
What comes in the box
Some listings state that controllers are included with the headset. Others do not mention controllers, so the guide cannot say whether they are included. Buyers should check the listing for what is in the box. This guide compares only what the title states.
Questions
What is mixed reality on a VR headset?
Mixed reality means the headset can show the real world around you through its cameras while you are in a virtual app. This allows you to see your room and interact with virtual objects placed in it. The guide only checks whether the listing says mixed reality, MR, XR or passthrough, not how well it performs.
Do I need a PC for a mixed reality headset?
Not necessarily. All picks here are standalone headsets that can run apps on their own. Some also state PC VR capability, meaning they can connect to a PC for additional content. Check the listing to see if it says PC VR or includes a cable.
Can I use a mixed reality headset for PC VR?
If the listing says PC VR, then the headset can be used with a gaming PC. The HTC Vive XR Elite with Deluxe Pack and the HTC Vive Focus Vision Wired Bundle both state PC VR. The Meta Quest 3S also states PC VR with a link cable. The guide does not claim how it connects beyond the title's words.
Does this guide cover comfort, image quality or motion sickness?
No. The catalogue has no data for comfort, weight, fit, image quality, lens quality, tracking accuracy, refresh rate, field of view, battery life, or motion sickness. The site does not guess these. Always follow the maker's health and safety guidance and age guidance for any headset.
What is the difference between mixed reality and virtual reality?
Virtual reality (VR) replaces your view with a fully virtual world. Mixed reality (MR) blends virtual objects with the real world by showing your surroundings through cameras. A headset that says mixed reality can do both, depending on the app.
