How we picked
This guide draws from a pool of 14 PC VR headset listings whose titles make them PC VR (type: PC VR, for PC, PC-powered, SteamVR, Windows Mixed Reality, or a PC line such as Rift, Vive Pro or Pimax Crystal). After removing near-duplicates (one listing per model), 12 picks remained. Headsets are compared on stated details and live prices. The ranking order is: headsets with more stated yes details among mixed reality, plays PC VR, eye tracking, and controllers included come first; then by larger stated storage; then by the order in the pool file. At most four picks from any one brand (Meta, Oculus, and Meta Quest count as one) ensure brand spread. At least one Standalone and one PC VR headset are included, though all here are PC VR.
How to choose
Standalone, PC VR or PlayStation
A PC VR headset requires a gaming PC to run software. The listing title may say PC VR, for PC, PC-powered, SteamVR, or Windows Mixed Reality. Check that your PC meets the requirements listed on the maker's site. Some standalone headsets also play PC VR, but this guide covers only headsets whose titles make them PC VR.
What mixed reality means on a listing
Mixed reality (MR) or passthrough allows you to see your surroundings through cameras built into the headset. None of the listings in this pool state mixed reality. If that feature matters, look for a headset title that mentions passthrough, MR, or XR.
Storage on a standalone headset
PC VR headsets do not store games; they run them from the PC. Therefore, storage is not a stated detail for PC VR listings. If you see a headset that states storage, it is likely a standalone model that can also work with a PC, but that is outside this guide's focus.
Plays PC VR: cables and streaming words
Some listings say they play PC VR or are for PC, PC-powered, or SteamVR. This tells you the headset connects to a PC via cable (such as DisplayPort) or wirelessly (streaming). The listing may not specify which method. For connection details, check the maker's product page.
What comes in the box
The listing title may state that controllers are included, or may be silent. When controllers are not stated, the buyer should check the full listing on the store page to confirm what is included. A headset that says full system may include base stations and controllers.
What this guide leaves out (and why)
This guide does not cover comfort, weight, image quality, field of view, refresh rate, resolution, or game library size because the catalogue has no data for them. The site does not guess. Buyers should read the maker's product page for specifications. Health and safety guidance from the headset maker applies. This guide compares headsets only on stated details and live prices.
Questions
What is a PC VR headset?
A PC VR headset is a virtual reality headset that requires a connection to a personal computer to run games and apps. The listing title will typically say PC VR, for PC, PC-powered, or compatible with SteamVR. It does not operate on its own like a standalone headset.
Do PC VR headsets include controllers in the box?
Some listings state that controllers are included, while others do not. Check the listing title for the word controllers. If not stated, the buyer should verify what is included on the product page before purchasing.
Does this guide cover comfort, image quality or motion sickness?
No. The catalogue has no data for comfort, image quality, resolution, field of view, or any safety or health aspects such as motion sickness. The site does not guess. Follow the maker's health and safety guidance for any headset.
Which headsets in this pool state eye tracking?
Two listings in this pool state eye tracking: the Pimax Crystal Super (product slug pimax-crystal-super-vr-headset-3840x3840-b0g1sln8pv) and the HTC Vive Pro Eye (product slug htc-vive-pro-eye-virtual-reality-b07rqmtspf). A third Crystal Super listing also states eye tracking.
How is the ranking of the picks decided?
Headsets are ranked by the number of stated yes details among mixed reality, plays PC VR, eye tracking, and controllers included, with more yes details ranking higher. Ties are broken by larger stated storage, then by the order in the pool file. No numeric specifications from the title are used.
Can I use a PC VR headset without a gaming PC?
No. A PC VR headset requires a gaming PC that meets the headset's system requirements. If you do not own a suitable PC, consider a standalone VR headset that runs apps on its own.
